Very Rev. Fr. Basil Okoro, Parish
Priest, Good Shepherd Catho-
lic Church, Owode has charged
members of the parish CWO to always
prepare themselves to embrace the
changing tide of modernity in conform-
ity with the teachings of the Church.
Addressing the women during the
occasion of their second induction and
fund raising ceremony recently with
emphasis on “Church in the Modern
World,” Fr Okoro who described the
women as ‘Missionaries of Christ in the
world under the banner of Mary,’ com-
mended them for their efforts in the
developing of the Church, but warned
them not to allow the unfolding mo-
dernity of the time becloud their faith in
Christ.
Said he, “You give me cause for joy each
time you gather for your monthly meet-
ings. You do not only socialize, but use it
as a moment of fraternal correction and
learning. It is therefore worrisome when
some women in the church do not find
it necessary to identify with your group.”
Drawing the reference of his homily
from the fourteenth station of Lenten
Pilgrimage 2019 which states, “My death
on the cross is not for you alone, but for
the salvation of all mankind,” Fr Okoro
reminded the CWONLA members of
all that the Church expects from them
in the areas of Ecumenism, Missionary
Life, Christian Education and Liturgy.
He therefore challenged them to be the
true missionaries the Church has called
them to be, by following the footsteps
of Our Blessed Mother.
The highlight of the occasion was
the induction of new members of the
Catholic Women Organisation, led by
the PRO of the Catholic Women Or-
ganisation Lagos Archdiocese, Mrs.
Gloria Young, who briefly extolled
Fr. Okoro for his generosity before
lighting the candle for the occasion.
Eighty-eight new members were in-
ducted into the fold.
A Fund Raising for the construction
of the parish grotto was carried out,
after which some personalities were
given awards for their contribution to
the organization.
