The Catholic Women Organisation Nigeria (CWON) has scheduled its nationwide virtual Advent Retreat for December 5–6, 2025, inviting Catholic women in the provinces across the country to deepen their spiritual preparation for the coming of Christ.
The two-day retreat, themed “Prepare the Way: Watchful Hearts Awaiting Christ,” is in line with CWON’s long tradition of fostering prayer, reflection, and renewal during the Advent season. Hon. (Mrs.) Elizabeth Sonubi, National President, CWON, said the programme is aimed at “reawakening the spiritual consciousness of Catholic women and strengthening families in this sacred season of anticipation and hope.”

On December 5, the retreat will open with a focus on repentance and spiritual readiness under the theme “Prepare the Way of the Lord.” Very Rev. Fr. Linus Huabo, National Chaplain, will lead participants through a structured programme featuring the CWON Anthem, Rosary, a thematic presentation, Scripture meditations, an exhortation, and Eucharistic Adoration. Key biblical texts—Isaiah 40:3–5, Luke 3:2–6, Psalm 51:10–12, and Romans 13:11–12—will guide the reflections on renewal of heart.
The retreat will conclude on December 6 with the theme “Be Watchful and Ready,” highlighting hope, joy, vigilance, and expectant waiting. Rev. Fr. Wilfred Nwachukwu PhD, Director of Education, Archdiocese of Owerri, will deliver the day’s keynote presentation. Activities will include prayer sessions, Scripture meditations, an exhortation, Eucharistic Adoration, and either a Holy Mass or a Prayer of Commitment. The day’s reflections will draw from Matthew 24:42–44, Philippians 4:4–7, 1 Thessalonians 5:4–8, and Titus 2:11–13.
Hon. (Mrs.) Sonubi called on CWON members in the provinces to participate online, reaffirming the organisation’s dedication to nurturing the spiritual life of Catholic women nationwide. “This retreat offers us a sacred opportunity to pause, reflect, pray, and ready our hearts for Christ, who comes with peace, mercy, and hope,” she said.
