The Catholic Television of Nigeria (CTV Nigeria), is set to expand its broadcasting footprint as it migrates to the GOtv platform on Ash Wednesday, March 5, 2025, marking a major milestone in Catholic media evangelisation. In a press release signed by Very Rev. Fr. Patrick Alumuku, PhD, Director of Communications, Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, and Director of CTV Nigeria, the move aligns with the Church’s long-term vision of ensuring a strong Catholic presence on major television platforms.

Launched in 2009, CTV’s journey began with a vision spearheaded by His Eminence, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, who embraced an initial offer from High Chief Raymond Dokpesi to operate a Catholic TV channel on DAARSAT. When that plan fell through, the Archdiocese pivoted to AIT, with the launch of the now-popular devotional programme, A Light for the Nation, on January 1, 2010. Over the years, CTV has expanded, achieving a 24-hour broadcast schedule via NigComSat’s OUR TV in 2018.
Now, with its move to GOtv, the station is set to reach an even wider audience, with plans to establish local production hubs in dioceses across Nigeria. Fr. Alumuku urged Catholics, businesses, and media enthusiasts to support CTV’s sustainability through sponsorships, advertisements, and infrastructure development, emphasising that participation is key to growth.
