The reality of COVID-19 has further hit hard on the people and government of Ondo State following the death last Wednesday of the Commissioner of Health. Dr. Wahab Adegbenro who has been in the forefront of the battle against COVID-19 in the state passed on after a brief illness. It was gathered that the commissioner had been sick for some days before he passed away. Though it is uncertain if he died as a result of COVID-19, we gathered that the entire state is now in a sober mood owing to the incident suspected to be a fall-out of coronavirus infection. The situation is further compounded by the recent affirmation by the state Governor, Prof. Rotimi Akeredolu that he has tested positive to the virus. While assuring that he is in a stable condition and responding well to treatment, sources disclosed that the death of Dr. Adegbenro had rattled the Governor and members of his cabinet. Aside from exploring all possible health options to ensure he defeats the virus, we gathered that Prof. Akeredolu is not leaving out the spiritual side by turning to God for intervention. He has also ordered all members of his cabinet to be tested and proceed into isolation to forestall further spread in the seat of government.
