This Sunday’s Gospel reading from Luke 14:25-33 presents a challenging call to discipleship. Jesus reminds us that following Him requires radical commitment and detachment from worldly attachments. As Christians, we’re called to prioritise our relationship with God above all else, even when it’s difficult or unpopular. Jesus’ words about “hating” our family members (Luke 14:26) aren’t about promoting animosity, but about recognising that our love for God must supersede all other loves. The parables of the tower builder and the king going to war (Luke 14:28-32) remind us to count the cost of discipleship. Following Jesus isn’t casual; it requires intentionality, sacrifice, and surrendering our lives to His will.
As we reflect on these words, let’s ask ourselves: What does it mean for me to truly follow Jesus in my daily life? Am I willing to make sacrifices for the sake of the Gospel? May we be inspired by Jesus’ call to radical discipleship and empowered to live out our faith with courage and conviction. In a world where relationships and material possessions are often prioritised, Jesus’ words cut to the heart of Counting the cost of discipleship what it means to truly follow Him. Let us strive to put God first in our lives, even when it’s challenging. May His love and guidance empower us to live out our faith authentically and boldly. .
