The Executive Council of Agege Deanery Laity has again restated the position of the Church that lay faithful who are eligible to hold office in any of the statutory organisations and societies must have attended and completed the Leading For Mission training programme. Justifying the need for leaders in the Church to avail themselves of the training opportunity, a member of the Executive Council, Mr. Theophilus Odinmah said to become effective leaders who would add value to the office they occupy, the Church in its wisdom made the training mandatory for all lay leaders in the Church. The renewed call for the leaders who failed to attend the programme to consider themselves unfit to assume leadership position in the Church, came on the hills of the election of new Executive Council members of the Laity of St. Cyprian Catholic Church, Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos, on Sunday, October 23, 2022. Mr. Odinmah therefore charged those elected to direct the affairs of the Parish Laity Council for the next four years to undergo the training, especially for those who may not have accomplished the programme. Very. Rev. Fr. Richard Fasuyi, the Parish priest of St. Cyprian Catholic Church was present at the event, ably supported by other Exco members of the Agege Deanery Laity to ensure that the election was properly conducted and in accordance with the laid down rules.
He praised the peaceful manner things were done, adding that the new Exco would not just fit into the big shoes left behind by the former Exco led by brother Chukwuma Ezeaba, but to surpass their achievements. At the end of deliberations, followed by secret ballot vote by the Presidents and Secretaries of the different Organisations and Societies cleared to participate, the first two contenders of the three nominees, Mr. Esobi IkechukwuMac-Collins emerged as Chairman with the runner up, Mrs. Augusta Amaefule as Vice Chairperson. Messrs Kryswill Ofulue and Kizito Ejemezu were elected as Secretary and Assistant Secretary, in that order. Miss. Ngozi Tochukwu got the post of the Financial Secretary while Mr. John Aba, Mrs. Njideka Nwabugwu and Mrs. Florence Olaleye were elected as Treasurer, Provost and Welfare Officer, respectively. Mr. Esobi Mac-Collins in his acceptance speech thanked those who have found them worthy to be voted for, and that their success while in office would depend largely on the support of the councilors and wise counsel of the former Exco, and promised that they would put in their best to ensure that the Council works for the growth of the Church.
