Mr. Ifeanyi Dike, KSM, of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Itamope has been elected the new Deanery Coordinator of the Catholic Men Organisation, Ijede Deanery. He emerged as Co-ordinator in a keenly contested bi-election held recently at St. Monica Catholic Church, Igbogbo, Ijede, Lagos. The election followed the vacant position created by the elevation of the erstwhile Deanery Co-ordinator, Prince Anthony Oyekanmi as Deputy President of the Lagos Archdiocesan Catholic Men Organisation, who represented the LACMON President on the occasion.
Dike received 37 votes to defeat his closest rival, the Deputy Deanery Coordinator, Mr. Isaac Ajiduah of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Egbin, who scored 13 votes, while the third contestant Mr. Vincent Ojinma, immediate past Parish Chairman of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ewuowa had six votes. Speaking after the election, Mr. Ifeanyi Dike, appreciated the men for the confidence reposed in him, describing himself as a servant leader and pledged to mobilise all the men of the deanery to ensure the deanery grows from strength to strength.
During the Mass, the Parish Priest of St. Monica Catholic Church, Igbogbo, Very Rev. Fr. Gasper Olanrewaju, in his homily welcomed the over eighty delegates to his parish and commended them for the good work they have been doing as pillars of the Church. He challenged the men to continue to work together in love and unity while ensuring they guide and provide for their families as St. Joseph did in the Holy Family. The election was supervised by two officials from the Lagos Archdiocesan Laity Council, Mr. Kegbe Patrick, Assistant Welfare Secretary, and Nze Joseph Analele, Deanery Vice Chairman.
They were assisted by the Vice President of LACMON, Ikeja Region, Prince Michael Oyeniyi, and the Assistant General Secretary, LEP CMON/LACMON Admin., Hon. Promise Uwechue. Carrying out his first assignment, the newly elected DC inaugurated two committees for the forthcoming Deanery activities, including, the Deanery AGM Committee to be chaired by Chief Ekwenugo Joseph, and the Committee for Celebrating the Elderly which has Amb. Tony Agbugba as Chairman.
