The Lagos Chancery, office of the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos has announced the activities that would take place in the Archdiocese of Lagos for the month of September. In the circular signed by His Grace, Most Rev. (Dr.) Alfred Adewale Martins, activities listed for the month of September amongst others, are feasts which the Archbishop said would assist the people to understand and appreciate the paschal mystery of the Lord Jesus Christ. The feasts include, Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, the patron feast day of the Archdiocese which comes up on September 14. According to the prelate, “The Nativity of Mary which occurs on September 8, marks the beginning of the unraveling of God’s plan of salvation for his people, while feast of the Exaltation of the Cross brings to completion the mission of God’s plan for his people on the Cross. By his death on the cross, Christ destroyed their enmity; by means of the cross he united both races into one body and brought them back to God. (Eph. 2:16).
The 50th memorial anniversary of Most Rev. Dr. John Kwao Amuzu Aggey DD, first African Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Lagos: The Mass is scheduled to hold on September 14, 2022 by 10:00am at the Holy Cross Cathedral. The celebration of the 2022 Season of Creation which began on September 1, World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, and ends on October 4, Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the Patron Saint of ecology with the theme “Listen to the Voice of Creation.” The adopted universal logo is “The Burning Bush” (Ex.3:1-12). He urged all to “Embrace and deepen the culture of Eco-friendly actions” deliberate effort to conserve energy, Tree planting and embrace the culture of Reduce, Re-use and Recycle as we journey towards more simple and sustainable living and lifestyles of integral ecology.
