-As St. Augustine celebrate Cultural Day

St. Augustine Catholic Church, Ikorodu, Lagos, celebrated its Cultural Day as part of the yearly harvest activities. Held annually, the event serves as a platform to honour spiritual heritage, showcasing diverse cultural expressions, and fostering unity among church members and the wider community. The Chief celebrant of the Holy Mass, Rev. Fr. Terseer Ubi admonished worshippers during his homily that they should respect one another and not segregate among members because of their diffferent cultural backgrounds.

He noted that the event is “Rooted in the desire to celebrate faith and cultural diversity; the Church Cultural Day, underscores the importance of preserving traditions while embracing modernity. It highlights the rich tapestry of customs, music, dance, and cuisine that different cultures bring to the Christian community, promoting mutual understanding and respect.” The reception was held at the pavilion shortly after Mass, featuring dance troupes, and skits, among other activities. A variety of traditional dishes cutting across different cultures were served, with a colorful parade, showcasing traditional attires among parishioners.

According to the Harvest Chairman, Bro. Solomon Adikwu, “This year’s cultural day was more than a celebration; it is a testament to the enduring power of faith and culture in building resilient, and harmonious communities.” As the church continues to host this joyful event, according to some parishioners, the message – diversity is a blessing and unity in faith that transcends cultural boundaries. In attendance were the pastoral team led by the Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Matthias Iheonu, Fr. Fasakin, Fr. Terseer and Fr. Godwin , Hon. Soronadi, Mrs Obeya, Mr. Ligbago, Mr. Ojiawuna, Mr. Alade, Mr. Ugnala among others.
