The Catholic Bishops of the Lagos Ecclesiastical Province are set to convene for their annual provincial meeting, scheduled to hold on January 21, 2025 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Lagos.

This gathering of the chief shepherds of the province promises to be a significant event, as they come together to discuss matters of mutual concern, share experiences, and chart a common course for the advancement of the Catholic Church in the province.

The meeting, which is a regular feature of the province’s annual calendar, will bring together all the Catholic Bishops of the Lagos Ecclesiastical Province, including Most Rev. (Dr.) Alfred Adewale Martins, Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Lagos; Most Rev. Peter Odetoyinbo, Bishop of Abeokuta Diocese; Most Rev. Francis Adesina, Bishop of Ijebu- Ode Diocese and Anthony Cardinal Okogie, Emeritus Archbishop of Lagos.

Also to attend the meeting are high-ranking priests of Directorates/Commission, leaders of Religious Congregations, Provincial Laity Council and the respecive Orders of Knights and Ladies.

The gathering will provide a platform for the bishops to engage in fruitful discussions, share best practices, and explore ways to address the challenges facing the Church in the province.

According to Archbishop Martins, the President of the Lagos Provincial Bishops’ Conference, “This meeting is a vital opportunity for us to come together as shepherds of the Lord’s flock. We will be discussing various issues affecting our province, including evangelisation, education, healthcare, and social justice. We will also be sharing our experiences and expertise, with the aim of strengthening our collective witness to the Gospel.”

The provincial meeting will feature a series of presentations and discussions, all designed to facilitate a deeper understanding of the issues at hand and to foster a spirit of collaboration and cooperation among the bishops, priests, religious and lay organisations as well as societies.

The Catholic Bishops of the Lagos Ecclesiastical Province invite the faithful to join them in prayer as they gather for this important meeting. As the bishops come together to discern the will of God and to chart a course for the future, they ask for the prayers and support of the entire Catholic community.
