…As irate youths raze police station

The Christian Association of Nigeria CAN, Niger State Chapter has condemned the killing of Rev. Fr. Isaac Achi, in Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger State. The state CAN Chairman, Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, in his reaction signed by his media aide, Daniel Atori, condemned the dastardly act, as he called for investigations into the attacks and the culprits brought to book. The CAN Chairman while condoling with the Catholic Diocese of Minna, Parishioners and the entire Christian community in the state as well as the immediate family of the deceased priest, prayed for the repose soul of Rev. Fr Achi and souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace. “Enough of the attacks and wanton killings of innocent Nigeria citizens. One of the primary responsibilities of the government is to protect the lives and properties of the people you govern,” part of the statement read. The CAN chairman therefore called on the government, the Police and other security agencies to double their efforts in tackling banditry and insecurity.

Reacting to the incident, irate youths of Kaffin-Koro, Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger State, in protest allegedly burnt down the Police station along Daza road, in the area. The youths, it was gathered were angered by the slow response of the police to the cries for help from the people when the gunmen attacked Fr. Achi’s residence on the said day. It was gathered that during the protest, cars and houses, including the police outpost were burnt even as some persons sustained various degrees of injuries. Rev. Fr. Achi’s house, it will be recalled, was set ablaze when the bandits failed to gain entrance into his house, the priest also died in the inferno. Confirming the development in the area, Emmanuel Bagna Umar, state Commissioner for Internal Security and Humanitarian Services, said though, the state government was pained by the incident, nobody had the right to take laws into their hands for whatever reason.
