…As Maryland Comprehensive Secondary School graduates 91
Over 90 graduating students of Maryland Comprehensive Secondary School, Maryland, Lagos have been charged to stay focused, fulfill their destinies, make unique contributions and manifestations, as well as become solution providers to the challenges of the world as they leave the confines of the school. The charge was given by Dr. Abiodun Adebayo–Oyetoro, the Guest Speaker, while delivering a speech, entitled, “Beyond the Classroom Walls”, during the 2025 graduation ceremony held recently in the school auditorium.

Oyetoro stated that the graduation marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new journey, as she assured the graduands of God’s good plans for their well-being as they enter into a world of opportunities. She cautioned the young ones, stating that life is not a bed of roses, as it seems because challenges lie ahead, adding that not all open doors are from God, as some are traps. The speaker however, encouraged them to dream big, set goals, allow their vision to guide them, and pay attention as they further their education. She urged the students to have the fear of God, and keep His commandments, as well as celebrate both small and significant victories which will fuel their determination to keep striving for greatness.
She asked the parents not to be overprotective, but to guide the children, and correct them when necessary, using the word of God as much as possible. While delivering the homily at Mass, Very Rev. Fr. Augustine Ikuomola urged the students to ensure they do not forget all they have learnt that has helped shape them, noting that they continue to be responsible and of good character just like the school has molded them. Rev. Sr. Agnes Adepoju, OLA, the Administrator, said the day marks a milestone in the lives of the students; as they celebrate their hard work, perseverance and growth. Congratulating the graduands, she recounted the interesting journey and uniqueness of the students, listing some of the moments that mark the outstanding features of the set, including the launch of the official graduation uniform of the school.
On the unveiling of the year book, entitled, “Timeless 91’25” after the students, she said they celebrate both the individual stories and collective journey that they have made. “It is the testimony of our school’s vibrant spirit, unity and diverse talents of our students”, she said. She reminded the graduands that this is not the end, but the beginning of their next chapter, urging them to embrace challenges with courage, pursue their passion with zeal, and always uphold the values of integrity and kindness. The event which featured an array of exciting activities by the students was attended by parents, Priests and Religious, including, Most Rev. (Dr.) Alfred Adewale Martins, Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Lagos and the school Proprietor, ably represented by Very Rev. Msgr. Anthony Obanla, Chancellor, Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos.
