The Parish Priest of St. Charles Catholic Church, Olodi-Apapa, and Dean of Apapa Deanery, Very Rev. Fr. Augustine Nnaemeka has again called on Christians, especially Catholics to exhibit humility, and serve without expecting favours in return. Very Rev. Fr. Nnaemeka made the remarks on Sunday, during the homily he delivered at St. Cyprian Catholic Church, Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos when the Church hosted him in appreciation of the developmental strides he recorded, and for taking the welfare of parishioners as priority for the twelve years he served in the parish. Fr. Nnaemeka in his trade mark way of simplifying the word of God for all to understand used the projector to graphically illustrate the gospel of the day taken from Mark 9:30-37.
He said Christians should emulate the virtues of St. (Mother) Teresa of Calcutta, and St. Francis of Assisi whom he noted took care of the poor and the hungry. In his words, they did not seek for earthly possessions or power as some of the kings, politicians and other influential people of the world do, but instead they were shining examples of humility and self-giving in serving humanity, that is real power, and not worldly possessions, just as Jesus in the gospel taught the disciples, “if anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.” He submitted. The Mass concelebrated by the Parish priest, Very Rev. Fr. Richard Fasuyi, the Associate priest, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Anyanwu and other visiting Priests, also coincided with the celebration of the Feast Day of St. Cyprian of Cartage September 17, 2021, the Parish cultural day, but was marked on Sunday, September 19, 2021 to officially send off Very Rev. Fr. Nnaemeka and to welcome the current Parish priest, Very Rev. Fr. Richard Fasuyi.
In his remarks, Fr. Fasuyi said the shoes left behind by Fr. Nnaemeka was too big for him to wear, but that nonetheless, he is set to take the Parish to greater height. Fr. Nnaemeka thanked the parishioners and well wishers for the warm reception accorded him, and by the pronouncement of Fr. Fasuyi, he was declared officially as a member of the Parish for his uncommon contributions in the spiritual and physical growth of the Church. Many came from far and near to grace the event, including the Priests’ entourage from Badore, Apapa, and Parishes within Agege Deanery.
