The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama has charged members of the Knight of St. Mulumba to shine like bright stars and to be children of God without reproach in a crooked and perverse generation where the blind pursuit of material things have become the normal. Archbishop Kaigama spoke at the Mass of Investiture for Knights of St. Mulumba held at our Lady Queen of Nigeria Pro Cathedral, Abuja on Sunday, July 12, 2020. In his Homily, the Catholic Prelate alluded to the parable of the sower in the gospel and asked the Faithful to re-examine their relationship with the word of God which he said is sown in the hearts of men and should therefore bear fruits in their lives.
According to him, “The word of God should, as psalm 119: 105 says, become a lamp unto our feet and light unto our path.” Archbishop Kaigama reminded the worshippers that the seeds that fell on the pathway and picked up by birds or trampled upon and did not grow are example of the word of God planted in the heart that is restless is taken away by the devil while the person sees divine things as irrelevant, unnecessary or unimportant. “The seeds which fell on rocky surface are like the word of God in the hearts of nominal Christians or mere Church-goers. They are indifferent and there is no connection between what they profess and what they do because their Christianity is only skin-deep,” the Archbishop noted. Still, in his words, “The seeds which fell among thorns, represent the heart weighed down by cares, anxieties, riches and blind pursuit of material things of this transient world.
The seeds that fell on good ground stand for those persons who heard the word of God, accepted it and by their conscious efforts, it took root in them leading to positive transformation and fruitfulness in their lives.” He called on the Knights of the Church and indeed, Christians, quoting Philippians 2: 15, to be blameless and pure. Archbishop Kaigama noted that during the crusades in the middle ages, Knights were military warriors protecting pilgrims and sacred places in the Holy land but that today “Even though Knights carry the symbolic swords and wear paramilitary uniforms, they are called not to physical war, but to spiritual warfare.” They should therefore transform their families into Holy families and a domestic Church,” he admonished.
