-VC admonishes undergrads on discipline
Matriculating students of Augustine University, Ilara, Epe, AUI have been urged to build their self-esteem, as well as focus on their studies, and not allowing any person(s) derail their plan in life, by getting them to do evil biddings, which they would ultimately be held responsible. The charge was given by Professor Christopher Odetunde, Vice-Chancellor, Augustine University, while addressing undergraduates at the 8th matriculation ceremony of the institution, held on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at the School Hall, Ilara, Epe, Lagos. Emphasizing on the importance of learning to live within the ambit of the rules that guide the AUI community, Odetunde advised the students to eschew all forms of indiscipline, especially drug abuse, cultism, habitual and chronic stealing, among others. The VC assured the undergraduates that AUI is preparing them for a bright future, as he added that this cannot be achieved without the cooperation of the students. “Be resolute in your decision to be an upright member of this community so that the University can pass through you and aid your formation. I reiterate here again that, life is a class on one, run your own race”, Odetunde admonished. He commended the parents for their trust in making the school a part of their children’s formation, adding that the journey they have embarked on with the institution will culminate in the fulfillment of seeing their children becoming high flying members in their chosen professions.
The VC commended Most Rev. (Dr.) Alfred Adewale Martins, Archbishop and Metropolitan See of Lagos, and Proprietor, AUI, for his unflinching support of the University, Anthony Cardinal Olubunmi Okogie, the visioner, for his consistent fatherly love, care and for never getting tired of supporting AUI. He commended members of the Board of Trustees and the University Governing Council for the role they play, as he appreciated those who continue to support the university financially, including the Deans of Deaneries, such as Msgr. Patrick Obayomi, whom he described as a consistent prize donor, and other donors, and people of goodwill. Commending the faculty and staff of AUI for their dedication to the University and the role they are playing in the lives of the students, he expressed gratefulness to God for His love, unending grace and mercy on the University as he commended the people to the intercession of the Blessed Mother, Mary. The institution had a total of 255 undergraduate students for the 2023/2024 session and 28 students who enrolled for the Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board, JUPEB programme.
