As Christians, the season of Lent presents a unique opportunity for spiritual reflection, renewal, and outreach. This period of 40 days, mirroring Christ’s journey in the wilderness, invites us to embark on a missionary exercise that combines prayer, fasting, and charity. Two members of the Missionary Childhood Association, Lagos Archdiocese state how they will carry out a meaningful missionary exercise during Lent:

‘Sacrifice part of my food to the poor, help the needy’

I intend to sacrifice part of my food to the poor, help the needy, share with the less privileged, forgive those who hurt me, and save for the mission. I intend to pray for children all over the world, preach to my friends about Jesus. I also intend to always carry out my missionary commitment/assignment, pay attention in the class, be obedient to my leaders in school, at home and in the Church. With children all over the world… we are always friends

‘I’ll focus on personal growth by praying, reading Bible stories, and reflecting on ways to be kinder every day’

As an MCA child, I believe that Lent is a special time to connect with God and help others. During this season, I plan to carry out my missionary exercise by participating in prayers at Church and sharing my faith with my friends and family. I will also take part in activities that teach us about Jesus, and encourage my community to support those in need. I will volunteer to help organise events at Church, like collecting donations for the less fortunate or participating in food drives. By helping others, I can share God’s love and show compassion to those who are struggling. I want to inspire my friends to join me so we can work together to make a difference in our community. Lastly, I’ll focus on personal growth by praying, reading Bible stories, and reflecting on ways to be kinder every day. This Lent, I hope to become a better person and a good example to others. My mission is to spread happiness and share God’s love wherever I go! With children all over the world…. We are always friends
