Experts have often predicted that networked Artificial Intelligence will amplify human effectiveness as well as threaten humanity. But the majority argue that the benefits of AI far outweigh risks, taking into cognisance ethical considerations and safeguards in design of AI systems to ensure responsible use, coupled with safety. Some children express their views. BETTY AMUKPO reports:
‘AI is an evolving technology that tries to simulate human intelligence’
AI is an evolving technology that tries to simulate human intelligence using machines. It also encompasses various subfields, including machine learning and deep learning which allow system to learn and adapt in novel ways from training data. Scripture shows that technology and tools can be used for both good and evil. Using artificial intelligence responsibly and ethically is a way to make sure we stick to the rule. It is also the main driver of emerging technologies like big data, robotics and IOT. Generally, the possibilities and popularity of AI has been expanded.

‘AI has proven to be superior to human decision making in certain areas’
Artificial intelligence can dramatically improve the efficiencies of our workplaces and augment the work humans can do. AI is an evolving technology that tries to simulate human intelligence using machines. AI has the potential to transform the way we work, communication and interact with technology. AI has proven to be superior to human decision making in certain areas. Bible References: Romans: 1:21-23, Colossians 2:8, Genesis: 1:26

‘AI and humanity should be guided by commitment to serve the common good’
As a Christian, views on AI often revolve around stewardship, ethical considerations, and the potential impact on human dignity. Many Christians believe that AI should be developed and used responsibly, with consideration for its effects on individuals and society. There’s also the perspective of ensuring that AI aligns with ethical principles derived from Christian teachings, such as compassion, justice, and respect for human life. Ultimately, the relationship between AI and humanity should be guided by a commitment to serving the common good and enhancing human development.

‘It can make life better, but can also cause problems’
Artificial intelligence (AI) can be super helpful or kind of scary for people. It can help us solve tricky problems and make life better (like in Psalm 107:27), but it can also cause problems like taking away jobs and invading our privacy if it is not used the right way (like in Proverbs 29:18). The Bible tells us not to put too much trust in fancy new technology (like in Isaiah 2:8 and Psalm 20:7), and to use AI in a good and fair way, following what the Bible says about loving and respecting people, like in (Mark 12:30-31). That way, AI can be a good thing that makes God happy and helps everyone out.

‘Algorithms must not be allowed to replace human values’
My view on Artificial Intelligence (AI), is also the same sentiment of our Holy Father, Pope Francis, where he spoke of his fears and hopes for AI in January. There should be a legally binding international treaty to regulate AI, algorithms must not be allowed to replace human values. AI is an advanced technology that can generate great opportunities, but also brings enormous risks. All forms of technology must be for the betterment of man and to the Glory of God (Psalms 117:1).

‘AI is a reflection of God’s image and creativity in human; it can be used to glorify God’
Artificial intelligence (A1) is an evolving technology that tries to stimulate human intelligence by using machine. The Bible doesn’t say anything about artificial intelligence (A1) directly, since it was written long before the invention of computers and machines. However, some Christians have tried to apply biblical principles and teachings to the topic of (A1) and have different views on its implications for humanity and faith. Some Christians believe that A1 is a tool that can be used for good or evil, depending on how human choose to use it. Some believe that A1 is a reflection of God’s image and creativity in human and that it can be used to glorify God and serve His purposes. Some argue that technology is a gift from God and that humans have a responsibility to use it wisely and ethically. Proverbs 15:32 says, “Whoever ignores instructions despises himself, but he who listens to reproof gains intelligence.

‘How we use AI can either help or harm others’
When we talk about how AI affects people, we need to think about what’s right and wrong and make sure AI helps people in a good way. It’s like what 1 Corinthians 10:23 says: “We can do many things, but not all of them are helpful. We can do anything, but not all of them are good for us.” This verse reminds us to think about how our choices, including how we use AI, can either help or harm others.

‘It has potential to be a game-changer to society’
I, Chika a Christian of strong faith feels AI has influenced humanity in so many ways not just positively, but also negatively, it has helped to build relationships worldwide. It is changing our lives in so many ways and has the potential to be a game-changer to society at large. Humanity these days has fallen short in so many ways, AI has helped to feel in the gap and make life worth living. With AI, humans are being encouraged to make better decisions. The Bible also said it in Romans 3:23, “The world itself did not sin, our tools did not rebel, we did.” This verse is simply saying as much as AI has influenced humanity, it’s still but a tool. God himself never stood against technology, but at the same time, he warned us to be strong in faith and whatever we do shouldn’t be blamed on technology (AI), but rather on us who served it like a god.

‘AI aids human development to yield positivity in human lives’
My views on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to humanity is that it aids human development and being able to yield positivity in human lives. Although, we should focus on God, for it is written in the Book of Colossians 3: 2, “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”
