The Directorate of Social Communications of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos has achieved another feat with the official opening of its audio recording studio for public use. Declaring the facility open recently at the corporate office of the Directorate, the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins who personally did an audio recording to test-run the efficacy of the studio, commended the Director, Rev. Fr. Anthony Godonu for a job well done. The Archbishop who was met on arrival at the office located at CMD compound, Ojota, by the Director and members of the Lagos Archdiocesan Communications Commission members, was taken round to inspect the facilities, some of which had been upgraded in recent times.
Welcoming the Archbishop, the Director, Rev. Fr. Anthony Godonu was full of appreciation for the support received from His Grace since assuming office and pledged that the Directorate, with the support of the Lagos Archdiocesan Communications Commission would continue to move from strength to strength. He revealed that the opening of the audio studio for public patronage was very instructive as it marked a giant leap in the rebranding efforts of the Directorate to reposition its activities in line with the demands of the times. According to Fr. Godonu, with the official opening of the audio studio, parishes, corporate bodies and individuals now have the opportunity of recording their voice-over advertisements, jingles and even musical albums at a very conducive environment and at moderate charges.
He also revealed to the Archbishop the plans of the Directorate to build an ultra modern television studio and a multi-media centre to help in empowering youths in the area of ICT. Responding, Archbishop Martins was full of praise for members of the Lagos Archdiocesan Communications Commission and the staff of the Directorate for their commitment and sense of dedication to duty. While admitting that the Directorate has improved greatly in its activities in recent times, he pledged to continue to give the necessary support to ensure that it continues to flourish according to the laid down vision.
He expressed joy at the facilities on ground at the Communication Centre, noting that it has always been his vision to harmonize the activities at the Centre for Media Development with the Directorate such that there would be homogeneity of purpose. “Our idea has always been for the media centre here to be well harmonized with the Social Communications Department. Unfortunately, all kinds of factors made it impossible until this point in time. I believe that the Directorate, with the support of LACC would achieve great height with the kind of commitment I can see here. Lagos has always served as a point of reference for other dioceses in Nigeria in terms of quality of service delivery.
I have no doubt that we will also set a standard in the Directorate of Social Communications. He pledged to avail the Directorate with the necessary support needed to transform and upgrade its products and services in line with the overall vision of the Archdiocese. In her vote of thanks, a member of the Lagos Archdiocesan Communications Commission, Dame Marie Fatayi-Williams pledged that the Commission would continue to offer guidance to the Directorate and help it attain the set standard. Other members of the Commission who were on hand at the ceremony included Mr. Anthony Chiejina, Mr. Seyi Martins, Mr. Patrick Adaba, Lady Neta Nwosu, Rev. Fr. Joseph Oyekunle and Rev. Fr.
