Archbishop Martins, Rufai, Okocha, Agali to attend LACMON tournament cup unveiling ceremony

The trio of former Super Eagles players, Peter Rufai, Austin Okocha and Victor Agali are all expected to grace the forth-coming LACMON Friendly Football Competition Cup unveiling ceremony slated for February 23, 2025 at Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos Island. The trio, former Ex Internationals appointed as tournament Ambassadors are expected to add colour to the unveiling ceremony that will also have the Chief Host, the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, His Grace, The Most Reverend (Dr.) Alfred Adewale Martins, LACMON Chaplain, Very Reverend Father Francis Ike and other top dignitaries.

The tournament organised in honour of Archbishop Alfred Adewale Martins will witness members of Catholic Men Organisation, Lagos Archdiocese (LACMON) from eighteen Deaneries slugging out for the coveted trophy. According to the Chairman of the LACMON Friendly Football Competition Organising Committee, Mr. Emmanuel Igboahazia, “The tournament is organized to unite CMO members through sports as well as give them the opportunity to exercise and keep their body healthy as they compete for the coveted trophy and prize money.” The opening match of the tournament is slated for 5th of April 2025 with the grand finale holding on Saturday August 9th, 2025 at St. Gregory College, Obalende, Lagos during the LACMON 2025 Convention.

Badminton Federation of Nigeria appoints sports management expert, Blessing Ekwe Chisalam as COO

The Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) has announced the appointment of Ekwe Blessing Chisalam as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). A dedicated sports enthusiast and accomplished sports scientist, Ms. Blessing holds a master’s degree in sports management and has a deep-rooted passion for sports. Her appointment comes at a pivotal time for Nigerian badminton, which has witnessed remarkable growth at the grassroots, national, and international levels.

 Recognized as one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, the Director General of National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade has stated that the BFN must not rest on its oars, as loftier objectives lie ahead. Speaking on her appointment, the President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Francis Orbih emphasized the importance of having a COO who shares the federation’s vision: “We need someone who can project badminton with a positive image and align with our dreams and aspirations as a federation. Ms. Blessing is highly competent, a sports scientist, with a masters degree in sports management understands the physiology of the sports ecosystem. Her appointment will be instrumental in driving the growth of badminton in Nigeria.”

As the COO, the BFN aims to expand its outreach, economic appeal, enhance programs, improve administration , and create more competitive opportunities for the Federation. With her extensive experience in administration, sports, and organization, Ms. Blessing is expected to elevate Nigerian badminton’s operations, in line with the objectives of the National Sports Commission.
