Archbishop Martins elevates St. Stephen, Agboju to parish status, seven others to quasi parishes

The Most Rev. (Dr.) Alfred Adewale Martins, Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Lagos has announced the elevation of St. Stephen Catholic Church, Agboju from the status of a Quasi Parish to Full Parish. Archbishop Martins who disclosed this while giving his remarks during the 2022 Chrism Mass held Thursday, April 14, 2022 at the Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos further announced the elevation of seven Station Churches to the status of Quasi Parishes.

The Station Churches that were elevated to the status of Quasi Parishes include St. Francis Catholic Church, Akpa; St. Gerald Majella Catholic Church, Amukoko; Stella Maris Catholic Church, Oko-Ajah; St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Mowo; St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, Eruwen; Catholic Church of the Transfiguration, Agbenaje and St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Whitesand. The Archbishop noted that the elevation of the churches are part of the evidences of the joint efforts, made by the faithful; religious and laity, which are bearing fruit in the Church. He took the occasion to thank the entire laity of the Archdiocese of Lagos for the collaboration and cooperation which they make with the clergy and religious in carrying out the mission of the Church and Archdiocese.

Archbishop Martins further commended the people for their prayers, adding that “All of us are of one mind in carrying out the mission of the Church and Archdiocese.” He acknowledged all that the people do with enthusiasm, taking part in the life of the Archdiocese. “When we want to build, we build together. That is an indication that there is one Church that is being led by the Holy Father and we are following”, he said.
