The St. Agnes Catholic Church community on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, marked a landmark moment with the blessing and dedication of its brand-new ultra-modern, fourfloor St. Agnes Catholic Medical Centre. The solemn, yet joyful ceremony was officiated by Most Rev. (Dr.) Alfred Adewale Martins, Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Lagos, who prayed for the centre, its staff, and future patients. “This facility is a concrete expression of the Church’s mission to defend human dignity through compassionate service,” Archbishop Martins said, sprinkling holy water along its gleaming corridors and treatment rooms.

A medical centre with worldclass facilities
The four-storey facility houses:
• A fully equipped Emergency Room and Power Room
• Eye Clinic and Dental Clinic for specialised care
• X-Ray Room and Scan Room for advanced diagnostics
• Well-stocked Pharmacy and modern Laboratory
• Treatment Rooms and Doctors’ Rooms on every floor for prompt attention
• Seven Private Wards and Two Private Maternity Wards for personalised in-patient care
• Additional conveniences such as a Male Changing Room, reception area, and waiting lounges
Designed to serve the Maryland-Ikeja community and beyond, the centre promises affordable and accessible healthcare for all, blending modern technology with a faith-based atmosphere of care and compassion.

“A dream realised”
Very Rev. Fr. Anthony Fadairo, Episcopal Vicar of Ikeja Region and Parish Priest of St. Agnes Catholic Church, expressed deep gratitude to parishioners and donors whose generosity turned the dream into reality. “This centre will save lives and give dignity to the sick and vulnerable. It is a gift from this parish to the wider community,” he said.

The event drew prominent clergy, religious and parish leaders, including Rt. Rev. Msgr. John Aniagwu, Vicar General of theArchdiocese of Lagos; Very Rev. Msgr. Anthony Obanla, Chancellor, Archdiocese of Lagos; Very Rev. Fr. JoeBen Onyia, Dean of Ijede Deanery and Director of Pastoral Services, St. Raphael Divine Mercy Specialist Hospital, Ijede and Rev. Fr. Paul Ariole, Secretary to the Archbishop. Also in attendance were Dr. (Mrs.) Olufunke Christine Adebajo, 2nd Vice Chairman of the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) and Chairman of the Commissioning Planning Committee; Barr. Florence Atuluku, PPC Secretary and Secretary of the Commissioning Planning Committee; Dr. (Mrs.) Omotola Omotosho, Master of Ceremony; members of the Catholic Women Organisation; parishioners; and medical centre personnel — all visibly proud of the parish’s new landmark.

More than medicine
In his closing remarks, Archbishop Martins charged the centre’s staff to uphold the highest ethical standards. “This must be more than a place where bodies are healed,” he said. “It must be a sanctuary of hope, compassion, and love for everyone who walks through these doors.” The celebration ended with a vote of thanks and light refreshments, leaving parishioners inspired — and the wider community assured that St. Agnes Catholic Medical Centre is ready to serve as a beacon of health and healing in Lagos.
