…Administers Sacrament of Confirmation on 492
Sunday, December 4, 2022 was a joyous day for the clergy and parishioners of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Owode, Ikorodu, Lagos as 492 candidates received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Delivering the homily at Mass, Most Rev. (Dr.) Alfred Adewale Martins, Catholic Archbishop of Lagos spoke on the life of John the Baptist and his message about making the way straight for the coming of the Lord. Archbishop Martins charged the candidates and other members of the congregation not be like the multitude that came to listen to John the Baptist that were not genuine, as he added that, that was the reason John the Baptist addressed the multitude as a “Brood of vipers. The Archbishop enjoined the people to live good lives, imbibe love and honesty in all they do, as well as avoid bearing grudges or living deceptive lives. Addressing the candidates, Archbishop Martins said, “As John, the Baptist baptised with water and said ‘But he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry; he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire,’ today you receive the Holy Spirit and fire. It is the Sacrament that will help you to defend the church any time in life.” He charged the candidates to dispose themselves of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the twelve fruits of the Holy Spirit to enable the Church to grow. The Archbishop extolled Very Rev. Fr. Basil Okoro, the Parish Priest for the development that the parish has witnessed as he thanked him and the Good Shepherd Community for the love they share among themselves. The confirmands were drawn from about 13 parishes who prepared their candidates for the sacrament.
