The Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) has announced the passing unto glory of the Archbishop Emeritus of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kaduna, Most Rev. Peter Yariyok Jatau at the age of 89 years. According to a statement signed by National Director, Directorate of Social Communications, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Durumi-Abuja, the Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Kaduna, Very Rev. Fr Daniel J. Kyom said that the Archbishop Emeritus, who was 57years as a priest and 48years as a bishop, died on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at St. Gerald’s Catholic Hospital, Kaduna after a brief illness. Archbishop Jatau was born on August 5th 1931 in Marsa Kaje in Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Nigeria. He was ordained a Priest of Kaduna Archdiocese on July 7, 1963 and ordained a Bishop on November 5, 1972 as the Titular Bishop of Velebusdus at the age of 41. He was appointed the Coadjutor Archbishop of Kaduna Archdiocese on June 26th, 1972 – April 10th, 1975. He succeeded as the second Metropolitan Archbishop of Kaduna Archdiocese on April 10th, 1975 – November 16th, 2007, retired and became an Emeritus Archbishop. Before now, Archbishop Emeritus Peter Yariyok Jatau was the oldest Nigerian Bishop by age, still living, aged 89 years. Following this development, Bishop Emeritus Gregory Ochiagha is now the oldest Nigerian Bishop by age, born August 31st 1931. He is 89 years old.
