The atmosphere was charged
just as everyone present has
one thing or the other to say,
perhaps being the first meeting of the

year Councillors drawn from the elev-
en parishes, some representing statu-
tory organizations and societies that

make up Agege Deanery Laity Coun-
cil of the Catholic Archdiocese of La-
gos gathered at the Catholic Church

Of The Presentation, CCP, 23-27 Fa-
tokun Street, Abule-Egba on Sunday

February 23, 2020 to deliberate on

ways to carry out effective evangeliza-
tion within and outside its immediate

environment.

Soon after the Agege Deanery La-
ity Council Chairman, Mr. Charles

Onyewu opening remarks, prayers

said, the meeting started on a high
note with reports from the different

groups about their activities in pro-
moting evangelism and welfare of its

members and then the rundown of
the year 2020 plans by the Chairman.
At the centre of it all, according to the
Chairman, is how best Agege Deanery
Laity Council could position its self to
realize set objectives working hand in
hand with the Parish Priests, Religious
and Archdiocesan Laity Council.
To start with, the eleven Parishes that

make up the Deanery were encour-
aged to be up and doing to ensure that

the body meets its financial obliga-
tions and commitments to the central

organization. One way of actualizing
this is to mobilize every member of
the laity to participate in its activities
by putting in place committees which

Mr. Onyewu mentioned as new pro-
cedures committees while giving the

breakdown to include Agege Deanery

Day Planning Committee to be head-
ed by Brother Chikelue Joseph among

other Standing Committees; Disci-
pline, Education, Social, Publicity,

Finance & Administration and Faith
Formation Committee to be headed

by Brother Pius Adesewo. All coun-
cilors, in the words of the Chairman,

must fall under one committee or an-
other while those to lead the commit-
tees aside from persons already named

and members would be announced in
due course.
Presenting the by-laws to guide the
conduct of Parishes and Deaneries
Laity Councils in line with the new
policy of the Archdiocesan Laity
Council, Secretary of Agege Deanery

Laity Council, Mr. Theophilus Odin-
mah told Councillors that copies of

the by-laws would soon be made avail-
able to them through their Parishes.

The Chairman disclosed that some
individuals who have contributed
substantially to the growth of Agege
Deanery Laity Council would be
recognized and given awards by the
Archdiocesan Laity Council during
the 2020 Laity Week in March.
Meanwhile, the Parish priest of the

host Parish, Rev. Fr. Gabriel Adele-
ke who also has to entertain as guest

members of the Justice Development
& Peace Caritas came to the meeting
briefly to pray for the Councillors,
congratulate and wish them a fruitful
deliberation. St. Christopher Catholic
Church, Ijaiye, Ojokoro Development
Area of Lagos State would host April
meeting, Mr. Onywu announced at
the close of the assembly.
