The Director General of National Youth Service Corps ( NYSC) , Brig Gen Olakunle Nafiu has assured that the Corps will continue to support the Super Eagles as well as partner the Nigeria National League ( NNL) in ensuring that the country’s football moves to a higher level. He stated this Thursday when Chairman of NNL, Mr. George Aluo led a delegation to pay him a courtesy visit in his office at Yakubu Gowon House, Abuja, headquarters of the NYSC.

According to him, the NYSC made up of young graduates who are observing a one year compulsory service to their fatherland can boost the support base of the Super Eagles as they enter the crucial stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The Director General further stated that NYSC football team will play itself to the country’s professional league assuring that the organisation is ready to partner with NNL towards the development of the country’s football. “I want to thank the NNL board for what they’re doing towards changing the narratives of the country’s football.

I have been following your league and I want to say that the transformation which the second tier League has witnessed in the past two years is commendable and we will be ready to partner with NNL towards further development of the country’s football. “The NYSC as a body that oversees activities of fresh graduates who are performing their one year compulsory service to their fatherland will always boost the support base of the various national teams especially the Super Eagles as they aim to qualify for the 2026 World Cup to be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

He expressed optimism that very soon the NYSC football team that is presently participating in the Nationwide League One will play itself into the country’s professional league; saying that the young graduates that make up the team are highly talented football players. Earlier in his remarks, Chairman of NNL, Mr. George Aluo informed the Director General that the visit became necessary because the NNL shares the same vision with NYSC as both bodies are unifiers for the country.

“This courtesy visit is necessary because our two bodies are unifiers in the country. While the NYSC brings about proper integration of youths from all over the country not minding tribe, language culture and religion, football also serve the same purpose and that’s why it’s important that the two bodies collaborate,” he stressed.
