Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati, now raised to the honours of the altar, shines as a radiant model of holiness for today’s youths. Born in 1901, he embraced simplicity and humility, offering his life in joyful service to Christ and the poor. Deeply devoted to the Eucharist and prayer, he embodied the Gospel with contagious zeal. The reflections that follow from teenagers remind us that his legacy continues to inspire hearts to seek God and live with courage, faith, and love. ‘Pier Giorgio Frassati was described as ‘Man of the Beatitudes’’
Pier Giorgio Frassati, known as the “Man of the Beatitudes,” lived a short but impactful life of faith, charity, and hope, dedicating himself to the poor and the Church. His joyful witness reflects Matthew 5:6, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” His life inspires pilgrims of hope.

‘Saint Frassati was a joyful, energetic student’
Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati was an Italian Catholic activist known for joy, peace, Man of Beatitudes and commitment to serving the poor and passion for mountain and Art. He makes an excellent spiritual guide and mentor, having been an ordinary young man with a profound commitment to the poor and to justice. He was a joyful, energetic student who died of polio at the age of 24. Pope John Paul II called him ‘Man of the Beatitudes.’ His prayer was: “Lord, give me the courage to strive for the highest goals, to flee every temptation to be mediocre.”

Pier Giorgio Frassati lived with faith, charity, and joy. He showed that holiness is possible for the young. He embodied these biblical verses: “Blessed are the pure in heart” (Matthew 5:8); “Let your light shine” (Matthew 5:16); “Rejoice in the Lord always” (Philippians 4:4); “Faith without works is dead” (James 2: 26). He was full of love, prayer, and joy. “Love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34). “The joy of the Lord is my strength” (Nehemiah 8:10). “Be strong and courageous” (Joshua 1:9). Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati showed hope by helping the poor and praying daily. “Blessed are the merciful” (Matthew 5:7). “Let all you do be done in love” (1 Corinthians 16:14). “The Lord is my shepherd” (Psalm 23:1).

Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati, an Italian Catholic activist and member of the Third Order of Saint Dominic, was born on April 6, 1901, in Turin, Italy. He was known for his devotion to the poor, social justice, and his strong faith. He believed in the importance of social reform, often saying, “Charity is not enough; we need social reform”. Also, He valued prayer, frequent confession, and meditation on biblical texts, thereby, devoting all his life to God in the Catholic Church with the aim of seeking HIM. His life goes in-line with Psalm 119:10 which states, “With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments”.

Pier Giorgio Frassati’s generosity knew no bounds. He lived as a friend of Christ and a brother to all by name and by choice, a life of truth and generosity. Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati was born in Turin, Italy in 1901, until his death at age 24, he lived a purposeful Christ oriented life of prayer, service and adventure. He is a model of Catholic youth adult life. His devotion to his faith is still an inspiration to young adults today. His selfless act is reminiscent of Christ’s teaching on giving to those in need. Matthew 25:35-36 states, “When I was hungry and thirsty, you gave me to eat and to drink, I was a stranger, you invited me in.” Blessed Pier, often gave away his belongings, including his shoes to those in need. He lived a life of truth and generosity. He died of polio in July 4 1925. Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati feast day is July 4th every year.

Pier Giorgio Frassati (1901- 1925) was an Italian Catholic layman and member of the Third Order of Saint Dominic. He was known for his remarkable spirituality, charity, and devotion to God. Frassati was beatified in 1990 and is often referred to as the “Man of the Eight Beatitudes.” Frassati’s faith was deeply rooted in his daily life. He prayed regularly, attended Mass, and practiced charity. He served the poor, sick, and marginalised, often visiting hospitals and orphanages. Frassati’s family life played a significant role in shaping his spirituality and values. He was a true example of Luke 12:48 that advises, “For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required.” Frassati’s life serves as an inspiration to live out one’s faith authentically and serve others selflessly.
